Grab the lipstick and turn that amp to 11!
New Mexico's women who rock are at it again. This year's 2010 Pinup Calendar/CD project is benefiting Albuquerque's newest youth art space, Warehouse 508--for youth, by youth.
Albuquerque supports a wide variety of music venues, art centers and galleries, and exciting athletic opportunities--and now the community youth are getting their own center to nurture and explore the music, creative arts, and outdoor activities that inspire them.
Warehouse 508 x NMX Sports For Youth, By Youth
Warehouse 508 by NMX Sports is a youth-focused, youth-driven avenue to introduce, develop and professionally implement skills in the arts, music, outdoor recreation and non-traditional sports through mentorships, lifestyle events and entrepreneurial opportunities to enhance New Mexico youth's quality of life and community involvement in a safe, structured and supervised environment.
Warehouse 508 provides a wide range of programming and events geared toward and designed by youth in New Mexico. Working out of a 26,000 sq. ft. warehouse space in downtown Albuquerque, 508's Youth Creative Council and staff implement programs from concept to completion, including rock concerts, poetry workshops, film editing classes, mentorships in graphic design, and entrepreneurial projects such as a youth-run retail store. The Youth Creative Council consists of eight youth and young adult officers ages 15 to 23 focused on making 508 a venue truly for youth, by youth.
NMX Sports provides safe, structured and affordable ways for youth to participate in non-traditional sports like snowboarding, skateboarding, mountain biking, BMX and wakeboarding. NMX's iGo program encourages youth to engage in community service while earning credits applicable to NMX and 508 trips, workshops, classes and programs. NMX takes outdoor recreation excursions, hosts youth-focused competitions and arranges "learn-to" programs nearly every weekend, year round.
Warehouse 508 by NMX is an avenue for positive youth development and community involvement in a safe, structured and supervised environment developed by youth, for youth.
NM Rocks! 2010 Pinup Calendar
New Mexico Rocks! Pinup Calendar is a non-profit charitable project devoted to providing aid to youth community arts and music programs while spot-lighting the women of New Mexico's music scene.
Accompanying each year's Calendar is a compilation CD, showcasing the original music of the NM Calendar Girls. Printed in 2007 and 2008, the Pinup Calendar has featured 34 female musicians from 24 local bands, groups, and solo projects.
New Mexico Rocks! is produced by women in the New Mexico music scene for the benefit of New Mexico music. The Calendar is a collaborative project coordinated by Heartbreak Productions, and is produced, sponsored, designed, distributed, chaired and perpetuated by current and former NM Rocks! Calendar Girls.
Promotional events include live performances and benefit shows by the featured Calendar Girls. The 2010 Calendar shows begin in the summer of 2009 and continue throughout the next year with musical
appearances at the New Mexico State Fair, local venues throughout Albuquerque and Santa Fe (Burt's Tiki Lounge, the Launchpad, the Atomic Cantina, the Albuquerque Press Club, El Paseo, and others), and of course, Warehouse 508.
